Respite care is a short-term package of care & support along with accommodation that is offered to our guests whilst their family or carers take a break from their role as the main carer, to take time out for themselves, as when caring for someone, even someone you love can be demanding, challenging and exhausting, we all need a break from time to time and respite care offers just that.

Respite care can be a planned service when you choose it, subject to availability on your chosen dates but also in times of an emergency situation for example, if there is a crisis situation within the family home, we can help. Respite care can be delivered in many ways, at Nexxus Care, we have two short break services that offer respite care, Silver Birch which is located in Burton on Trent and Woodland View, in Cannock, both of our services are regulated by the Care Quality Commission.

Every person who has a need for respite care will undertake an assessment of need by the local authority which identifies the individual needs of the person and what support is needed, funding will then be arranged, and an allocation of overnight stays will be generated, it is at this stage that referrals will be made to our services by your social worker. Our experienced managers will then make an initial decision based on the information they receive, this is to ascertain the ability to support the individual and the ability to meet the persons needs including within the environment as me must be mindful of other guests within the service, then we will also carry out an extensive assessment by consulting family & carers and other professionals involved in the care of the individual so that we can capture as much information as possible, at which point, we can confirm suitability or not.

All of the information then forms the foundation of a Support Plan and identifies any areas of risk, also if there are any reasonable adjustments, we need to make to ensure we deliver person centred care – after all, the person is at the heart of what we do.

Our staff have been carefully selected based on their experiences and suitability for the guests of the service after completing a robust recruitment process. Our teams are then trained in a vast amount of topics, but most importantly, in specific topics that are associated with a person who has a diagnosis of learning disabilities and other associated needs.

We appreciate that you may want more individual information on Woodlands view and Silver Birch. This is why we have created separate information pages which can be accessed below:
