As the training manager I am responsible for end to end delivery of the company training function. I oversee the training team and manage all elements of sourcing, developing and administering training programs for Nexxus employees. As a trainer I deliver and assess training either through face to face training or support with our elearning suite, to ensure any new staff and existing staff are trained to the highest standard possible. My role involves working closely with the recruitment and operational teams to ensure we employ and train qualified employees to meet our current and future needs, whilst always working to the company vision and values, guaranteeing they are embedded throughout the company.

My job is to engage with and empower new carers and create a space where they can ask questions about the job they will be doing and ensure they know what will be expected from them working for Nexxus Care. Training is a two-way process so it’s really important to make sure new carers are actually learning when doing our training sessions. We go through an array of topics in classroom training as well as at home working and online training to ensure we cover all avenues of the learning process. My job is to also do mandatory update training with our existing staff to ensure everyone is up to date with current policies and procedures and current regulations and legislations relating to their job role.

As directed by Care Quality Commission all new staff have to complete mandatory courses, including care workers, domestics, kitchen staff etc.

When new care staff have completed the recruitment process, Face to face training will be arranged in our new fully functioning training hub. All our classroom training is delivered by qualified trainers who have years of experience in the care sector. Here they will go through policies and procedures, legislation, and all the mandatory elements involved within the care sector, including safeguarding, dementia, basic life support, medication etc… Throughout training we ensure we cover all training styles, including PowerPoint presentations, videos, quizzes, practical sessions and also discussions throughout, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and encouraging participation from all, in a relaxed friendly environment offering any support as and where needed.

We will also cover practical sessions during face to face training, so all new care staff do not feel overwhelmed when they first experience equipment in their new job role. When care staff have completed their face to face to training, they are enrolled onto the E-learning platform which is also produced by subject experts, where they must complete online courses withing their probation period, with the support of our trainers if there is a need. There is also specialist courses to complete where needed, such as ‘Communicating in sign eLearning’. ‘Eating disorders’ and ‘Foot care’, something for every interest! Any bespoke training will also be supplied, such as CPI, fire warden training by trained trainers when there is a business need. We also provide and support staff with Apprenticeships/NVQ’s, to match the need of their position.
