School Court is a large retirement living scheme that is open for anyone over 55 to apply to move into when apartments become available. However, elements of this retirement scheme include the delivery of care, and all rental applicants are reviewed by a panel which consists of the housing and care providers and the Local Authority Therefore, it is marked as an extra care scheme and was the very first extra care scheme Nexxus Care tuped over to its services back in 2019. School court is a beautiful scheme and it is rich in its history. Built originally as a church, turned into a school and still to this day some of its original structure shows. Before it being an extra care scheme it was a school called Valley Infant School that closed in 1991 and transformed into School court that opened in 1993.
School Court is located in Hednesford, Cannock and has been in operation for over 30 years. The building is a 41 bedded scheme and we currently provide care to a percentage of those living in the scheme.
The building itself is owned by housing provider Midland Heart and they have done a great job in ensuring the building provides a homely and friendly atmosphere.
Although, the service we provide within our extra care schemes is similar to the way we run our Domiciliary care service. Referrals are dealt with in a different way. When a new individual moves into a apartment at School Court the housing provider assesses that individual to understand whether or not they will need care to be provided. Once a need is identified depending on that individuals circumstances the housing provider comes to us to see if we have the capacity to take on that call. If Nexxus can accommodate the hours safely and effectively, we will commence care as soon as possible (N.B. Subject to pre-admission assessments). We can take on any package of care weather it is through brokerage or private.
